Blame my zodiac sign.

So I'm back from my Toronto trip and the decision to go to U of T just got harder. I loved my visit at the Faculty of Law there, and the school definitely has some impressive faculty members and student groups. It definitely explains why it is always a top-ranked law school in Canada.

All that said, I still can't decide if I should go to UVic (also a great reputation, about half the price of UofT), UBC (simply cuz its close to home) or Queen's (small town feel, good reputation). My main concern about going to U of T is the extra cost of tuition alone will add 30K to my post-graduation debt. UGH.... will it pay off in terms of money later on? Probably not. And its not only the debt I worry about, its the idea that I will be a  poor student for 3 years because of the university I picked.

Now I'm thinking, "if all schools cost the same, where would I want to go...". The answer to that is, of course, U of T. Anyways, your thoughts are much appreciated as I am an indecisive libra.

Dine Out Vancouver!

For Dine out Vancouver this year, Kevin and I went to A Kettle of Fish, The Cannery and La Terrazza. Here are my comments.

A Kettle of Fish - We chose to go there because their food has always been good and we both like seafood. Unfortunately, the DOV choices were nothing like their regular menu items. I ordered the Oysters Rockerfeller, Seared Ahi Tuna, and the Chocolate Mousse. Although the food was good, it wasn't memorable and the service was alright. The riesling we ordered wasn't that memorable. I know A Kettle of Fish could have done better in terms of service and food, but please note that it wasn't bad... I give it 7/10.

The Cannery - Our second DOV experience at this place was GREAT. We were seated at an excellent table with an great view of the port. Our server was friendly but because it was busy, it was quite hard to find her when we needed her. The food was even better than last year! I ordered the Roasted Fennel and Celery Soup, Grilled Salmon, and Chocolate Tower. All were excellent, although the Roasted Lamb Sirloin that Kevin ordered was exceptional. I urge you all to try it. We ordered a bottle of Arrowleaf gewurztraminer white wine which was impressive. I give it 9/10.

La Terrazza - My favorite place this year! Not only did they meet my service expectations, they exceeded them. Our server was very polite, friendly and helpful. He definitely made the effort to make sure we enjoyed our dinner. I ordered the Strozzapreti Bolognese, Roasted Lamb Sirloin, and Chocolate Terrine. We played it safe with a wine we knew (Wolff Blass Yellow Label Cabernet Sauvignon). Kevin ordered the mushroom soup, beef short rib and vanilla creme brulee. Food, atmosphere, and service - 10/10 + bonus points.

That's the end of my restaurant review. Hope you all enjoyed DOV as much as I did!

I have a choice?

So my first offer of admission for law school came from the University of Toronto and I was (and still am) sure I will be accepting their offer because it was my top choice law school. It didn't really matter if I received other offers, because I got into my first choice.

Today, I got an offer from UBC... my other first choice school (yes, there can only be one first, but this is MY life.... and I say there can be 2 first choices). UBC is a great school and all, and it is my first choice because it is close to home.

I'll be going to Toronto in February and if all is well, I will move there permanently. However, if I find that I don't like living in Toronto, then I will at least have UBC to 'fall-back' on at home.

Burnt Toast: And Other Philosophies of Life

My life pretty much went in a downward spiral from October all the way until, well, a few weeks ago, when it finally hit a new low. Everything was just bad - family life, personal life, work life, you name it. Although I am the type that has always considered a new day as a new day for opportunity, I dreaded seeing the next morning for fear that things would only get worse. But of course, in God's humorous ways, change comes when you least expect it and things are looking up again.

Next year, I will be living in Toronto as a law student at U of T. I know I'm taking a huge risk by turning my back on my desire to become a dentist, but for some unknown reason, I am attracted to the idea of starting in a whole new field. You see, becoming a dentist would simply be an extension of what I have already accomplished as a pharmacology student. It is a career that builds on the same knowledge and relies on the same skills acquired by a science student. Law school appeals to me in an intriguing and daring sort of way. I have no idea what I'm getting myself into, but I'm excited about it anyway.

Although I have pretty much made up my mind on becoming a lawyer, I welcome your thoughts on my career choice.  Just be honest, I can take it.
